Something to Read If You Like Spy Stories

"Restless" - a book by the well known British writer William Boyd was first published in 2006.

The book has two parallel stories: one is about the parents and children relationship - in this case mothers and daughters, the other - about an undercover special project run by the British intelligence at the very beginning of the Second World War.

Both British and Russian designers produced cinematoraphic cover for Restless - in black and white with dramatic splashes of red

First of all, it's a story about what all of us have to deal with at some point in life. It's the realization that our parents were not our parents forever, they live their own lives which sometimes do not concern us at all. This is what one of the main characters has to come terms with.

It is also a story about a young woman, who gets entangled in a сurious project run by the British in Europe and the US. There are secret codes, dangerous assignements, charismatic spies, schemes and counter schemes. The main purpose of the project is to turn the public opininon in America against the Nazi Germany,

There is a number of historical details which look authentic enough - Boyd is famous for his love and attention towards the historical background.

The plot is dynamic enough, at some point the events start to unfold quite dramatically. The book does not let you get bored.
In the end  i was left marvelling at the striking self confidence, courage, and conviction of the protagonist, and her decision to face up to her fear and the man she considered to be her mortal enemy.
